Cold Plunge & Recovery Pools
Cold-water immersion has become a staple recovery routine for athletes and fitness enthusiasts. A dedicated plunge vessel needs rigid walls you can brace against, insulation to slow warming, and a compact footprint that fits a garage gym or a shaded patio corner — exactly what Inflatable Pool Factory drop-stitch tubs are built for.
The same 4–5 PSI rigid construction used across our pools, plus the 5 mm insulated thermal bottom on SPA tubs, holds cold water steadily. Add ice, or pair the tub with external water-chilling equipment — the line is designed to work with heating and spa therapy units.
Is this the right fit?
A shaded, level spot from about 1.5 × 1.5 m — cold plunges work best out of direct sun
Users healthy enough for cold immersion (see the health notes below)
A routine for keeping water clean: frequent changes for ice-based setups, or filtration for chilled setups
A fitted cover to keep debris out and slow warming between sessions
Cold-water immersion (CWI) has moved from locker-room folklore to a mainstream recovery routine. But a dedicated plunge needs more than a stock tank: walls rigid enough to brace against, insulation to slow warming, a cover to keep debris out between sessions, and a footprint that fits a garage gym or a shaded patio corner. This guide covers how to build that setup with drop-stitch tubs — and where the honest limits are.
1. Why Drop-Stitch Works for Cold Plunge
A plunge vessel gets used hard: you grip the rim, brace against the wall, and step in and out daily. Soft air-ring pools flex under that treatment. A drop-stitch tub inflated to its rated 4–5 PSI operating pressure holds a firm, straight-walled shape with a rim stable enough to sit on during entry, exit, and breathwork.
Inflatable Pool Factory SPA tubs add the two features a plunge actually needs: built-in seats for an upright seated immersion position, and a 5 mm insulated thermal bottom that slows heat transfer from the ground — useful whether you are keeping heat out (cold plunge) or in (hot soak).
2. Cooling Strategy: Ice or Active Chilling
An honest point first: insulation slows temperature change, it does not create it. To hold plunge temperatures (roughly 4–10 °C / 39–50 °F) in warm environments you need one of two approaches:
- Ice-based: add bagged ice and replace as it melts. Simple and equipment-free, but requires disciplined water changes every 3–7 days since there is no sanitizer loop running.
- Active chilling: pair the tub with an external water chiller through the standard circulation ports. Confirm port compatibility with your chiller vendor before purchasing — see the specs in the shop.
A fitted, insulated cover is non-negotiable for either route: it locks in temperature, blocks debris, keeps energy use down, and keeps children and pets out of an unsupervised water vessel.
3. Choosing the Vessel
| Goal | Catalog reference | Why it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Upright seated plunge for one | Ø 1.8 × 0.8 m (RS1808) | Deep vertical immersion, smallest footprint |
| Two-person or taller users | Ø 2.3 × 0.8 m (RS2308) | Extra diameter and wall thickness for two |
| Reclined, full-body soak | 3 × 2 × 0.8 m (SR230815) | Full leg extension for recovery positions |
| Cornered garage-gym station | 2 × 2 × 0.8 m (SS202008) | Square geometry against two walls |
Deeper walls are better for plunges — 0.8 m and up lets most users submerge to the chest while seated.
4. Water Hygiene for Daily Immersion
Daily single-user plunges are low-contamination, but small volumes still need a routine:
- Skim and cover after every session. The cover is your primary hygiene tool.
- For chilled, filtered setups: run the circulation and sanitizer system per the equipment vendor’s guidance, and test the water regularly.
- For ice-based setups: drain and refill on a 3–7 day cycle depending on use and ambient temperature — small volumes make this fast with the hose-compatible drain valve.
- Rinse before entering when you are coming straight from a workout; sweat is the main organic load.
5. Health & Safety Disclaimers
Read before starting a cold-immersion routine.
- Consult a physician first if you have high blood pressure, a heart condition, circulatory issues, are pregnant, or take medication that affects circulation or causes drowsiness. Cold immersion places real physiological stress on the cardiovascular system.
- Never plunge alone or while impaired. Have someone within earshot, keep sessions short at first (around 2–5 minutes), and exit immediately if you feel dizzy or unwell.
- Not a medical device. Inflatable Pool Factory tubs are water vessels. They are not sold to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any condition, and no health outcome is guaranteed.
- Supervise the vessel. A filled tub of any temperature is a drowning hazard for children — keep it covered and inaccessible when not in use.
6. Build the Routine
Start with one tub, one cover, and one honest cooling plan — then iterate as the habit sticks. Browse the shop for the full size range, or read the maintenance guide for the water-care details.

Safety notes
- Cold immersion places stress on the cardiovascular system — consult a physician first if you have high blood pressure, a heart condition, circulatory issues, or are pregnant.
- Never plunge alone or under the influence of alcohol or sedatives; keep initial sessions short (around 2–5 minutes).
- Inflatable Pool Factory tubs are water vessels, not medical devices — no health or recovery claims are made or implied.
- Secure the fitted cover when not in use to keep children, pets, and debris out.
